The Ibusa community was on Thursday thrown into mourning following the reported passing away of Samson Chigbogu, a popular upcoming Anioma traditional musician.
The news of the musician’s demise professionally called “Small” hit the Ibusa social space with sympathizers, many from among his fans and followers, expressing mournful feelings over the loss.
Skeletal information gathered by PEN MASTER revealed that Small started his musical career under Prince Sunnybobo Ogwu and His Ibusa Brothers International Band from whom he set up on his own about 5 years ago. Since then he has been showing independence musically, performing for several Ibusa families including Awele Onokwai during his wedding ceremony in the community.
The cause of his death has not been ascertained by PEN MASTER as of press time. Meanwhile, condolences have continued to come the way of Small, the late musician whom many believe to be encouraging and inspiring promises of great musicianship.
Giving his own condolence, Awele Onokwa wrote “Go well, Small. You performed on my marriage day and you gave a fantastic account of yourself and your talent. Since then, we have been in touch and even brokered deals together as recently as the 22nd of December, 2022. God bless your soul, Bro.”
His mentor, Prince Sunnybobo Ogwu who also paid tribute to the man he described as clever and promising confirmed to PEN MASTER that the late musician learnt the art of musical instrumentality and other mentorship benefits from him. He regretted his loss saying it has denied Ibusa of a musical voice.
He was also described by Hon Oge Okonkwo as a huge loss to the Ibusa world of music.
The late Samson Chigbogu hailed from Umuisagba in Ibusa, Delta State.
