Submit your Ibusa Poems, Proverbs, and Fables for Publication in our Book; Group Tells Ibusa Indigenes
– Emeka Esogbue
An Ibusa Group, Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors (GIWA), has called on Ibusa sons and daughters from home and the Diaspora to submit works on poems, proverbs, and fables for publication in a book.
The Group made the call on Monday through its General Secretary, Mr. Austin Ogechukwu Nwulia.
The paper announcing the call read in part, “We write to invite members of the Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors (GIWA) and the larger Igbuzo community to submit creative works for the forthcoming anthology. Our working title is ‘Igbuzo: Poems, Proverbs, and Fables.’ We’re interested in creating works that reflect the community’s expressive cultures: rites, festivals, theatres, folklores, memories.”
“We welcome works on any aspects of cultural and political life in Igbuzo, from the agrarian to the modern times, that define our identity as a people. There’s no specific theme as long as it draws from a range of topics definable in Igbuzo origin. We encourage contributors to use their art to give an account of life in Igbuzo. Traditional forms of poetry (Okanga, Imanokwa, Agilima, etc.) are welcomed.”
“We hope to curate and consider works that underline our shared history, politics, ecology, and other forms of knowledge. We invite cultural enthusiasts and local praise singers to contribute —submissions are encouraged in the Igbuzo dialect in written or audio format. These will be published in shared authorship with the translator.”
The Organizers are hoping to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the people, including “itu afa,” “ima-ekwe,” “akwa-ututu,” “akpata-onu,” local songs, and others, and expect the literate and non-literate, young and old with the knowledge of the people’s culture to participate in the exercise.
Submission guidelines expect contributors to submit up to five poems, proverbs, fables, or aphorisms, while such works may be in text, voice, or audio, depending on the nature.
The deadline for submission is September 25, 2023.
The Editors, according to the Organizers, are Dr. Collins Nweke, Dr. Peter Anny-Nzekwue, Dr. Ajumeze Henry, and Elder Emeka Esogbue, while the translation Editor is Mr. Austine Nwulia.
