Josephine Nwakor Shows Picture on Stage, King Emene
Beautiful Josephine Nwakor, “Jossy John,” displaying her pictures on social media on stage, “King Emene” in which she played the role of Obiageli, has evoked memories of Zulu Sofola (1935 – 1995), the author.
King Emene, a play, was published on Jan 1, 1974, by Prof Zulu Sofola, an Anioma daughter. Prof Sofola made history as the first published female Nigerian playwright and dramatist and also the first female Professor of Theatre Arts in the whole of Africa, instantaneously, putting Anioma on continental record in that endeavour.
Back in 2017, dramatist and culture enthusiast, Josephine Nwakor, who is also a member of the Organization For the Advancement of Anioma Culture (OFAAC) actively participated in the dramatization of the work in Asaba, Delta State as directed by Linus Osemene.
She recalled, “doing what I know best (stage business).”
“On the set of KING EMENE playing Obiageli, the Queen.”
Josephine also afforded us the chance of her lines, “Oh of mother of the rich and poor, you who are uncompromising hatred of injustice have caused you to depart the company of Anwai and Oshimili. Listen to my endless cry and save me. My eyes have become deserts and my dreams are turned into frightful nightmares. I ask not for a throne that was tightly his nor do I ask for death to bring back my son to me. Soothe my burning heart and let justice reign again.”
Thrilled that she could recall an entire line, she enthusiastically enthused, “See lines wey person ‘cram’ for head.
I love, “#ilovestageacting#itsfun.”
Off stage, beautiful and versatile Josephine Nwakor would further tell PEN MASTER that she was proud of who she was and also proud of Ma Zulu Sofola who brought the Anioma people ‘scholarly glory,’ making the people proud with her life and times.
Prof Nwazuluwa Onuekwuke “Zulu” Sofola nee Okwumabua hailed from the Issele-Uku community of Anioma in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
