GIWA ADVOCACY VISIT: REPORT FAULTS DEPLORABLE GOVERNMENT LIBRARY IN IBUSA
– Emeka Esogbue
The Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors also known as “GIWA” recently paid the Delta State Library located in Ibusa community of the state a fact-finding visit.
The Library, now becoming one of the most frequently visited in the community by prying fact-finding visitors received the team with hospitality.
Sad to say, the findings of the team were not interesting as the report affirmed a poorly-funded government infrastructure, stating that apart from the community support and other special intervention projects being rendered by concerned Ibusa people and other groups, there is no visible presence of the State Government.
“The State Library has just a Librarian and an assistant as staff. No security personnel, cleaners or gardeners,” the report submitted.
“Non-functional and deplorable facilities. The toilets are not functional, and it is without water supply. The signpost of the library is old and no longer visible.”
It further said that most of the books are outdated and poorly kept and resource materials are not sufficient while some are no longer within syllabus.
Security and alternative source of power are not also provided according to the report.
The three-man group led by Miss Buchi Emeagwai recommended GIWA support to help the Library make an eventful return to normalcy. Other members of the visitation team are Austine Nwulia, GIWA’s Secretary and Stanley Agboso, another member of the Association. However, GIWA will in the coming weeks weigh the options available to her on necessary steps to take.
The Ibusa community is renowned for the great number of scholars available to her.
