The President of the Guild of Ibusa Writers and Authors also known as GIWA, Dr. Henry Obi Ajumeze has appealed to the Management of the Admiralty University of Nigeria (ADUN), Ibusa in Delta State, Nigeria, to proudly assert the Ibusa name as the institution’s host community.
Ajumeze, in a terse message made available to the executives of the Association via the GIWA executive platform, said, “Dear House, a particular matter keeps drawing my attention as something within our spheres of interest. It is the persistent refusal to assert our name as the bona-fide community in which Admiralty University is founded and sited,” while urging the Management of the school to recognize the community as the host community in their publications.
Dr. Ajumeze, a renowned poet and lecturer in Theatre Arts, popular for his book, “Dimples on the Sand,” who made this appeal on Wednesday further stated, “this act derides our communal sense of identity and undermines our historical geography.”
“I believe we should put our acts together to speak to the Management in a pure sense of hospitality and utmost friendly disposition and relations that our community is peacefully known.”
The information is available on the official website of the school reads that the main campus of the school is located on “100 hectares of land at Ibusa, about 20 kilometers from Asaba, the Delta State capital,” a recognition for Ibusa though.
The Admiralty University of Nigeria, the only institution of higher learning currently located in Ibusa, the community with professors nearing one hundred in number, belongs to the Nigerian Navy with the main objective of expansion of knowledge in various specializations that include marine, logistics, management, forensic, and cyber security sciences.
The Anioma public and beyond continue to praise the presence and activities of the institution, stating that the institution has uniquely brought standards to stay in their academic training in Nigeria with their giant presence and also opening up the area of its location to economic build-up. Dr. Henry Obi Ajumeze is one of the people satisfactorily grateful to the institution in this wise.
The institution was attracted by Admiral Joseph Dele Ezeoba (retd), an indigene of Ibusa who was the Chief of Naval Staff in the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
